If you rent a car at JFK or La Guardia from Avis make sure to check that they're is a FULL TANK of GAS in the car & make sure to check that there is no damage to the car you're renting. After arriving at the facility with a Lyft for our pre booked rental we then had the hassle that due to fact they have now only have chip pin payment and my chip was not working on my credit card and company policy is they won’t accept debit card, nor would they let anyone in the party pay the “refundable deposit” they just say there with blank looks on their faces saying there was nothing they could do, we were about to drive from NY to Florida, so luckily for us Budget was only a few blocks away and they as always went out of their way to help us get on our 10 day road trip ! Nice to see good old American Customer Service is still alive at Budget as Alamo sucks with theirs!!

We also were told we were required to pay for EzPass through the rental car and that there were high fees charged for it, but this seems incorrect, as Toll By Mail seems available on all roads via an easy online form.

I arrived in time at 2 AM to pick up my car to be told by the staff that they no longer have any cars and there is that there is nothing that they can do for us!!!!!!!! I was not told ahead of time they would be running a credit check and I was not allowed to rent a car because I do not have the best credit. This has never happened to me with the many other rental companies I’ve used. I will never use Avis again. I was embarrassed in front of a room full of people, and my trips plans weee ruined. Never ever again.

Avis did not honour the prepayment voucher. I had to pay their rate, which was double what I had prepaid, and the value that I paid was applied against the full walk up cost of the rental. I am spending a long time trying to get this rectified. And there was a 30min wait in line before I was served. The car was good, comfortable and clean, and had a full tank. However, the car is factory fitted with SatNav when I tried to use it, it said that this was a subscription service. It was disabled as I did not add it as an extra.

i came here after my reservation with ACE fell through - these guys brought me an upgrade in about 5 minutes despite not even having a registration for more than half an hour. was really impressed, & that's not something i'm used to saying about car rental places.

Awful experience. I chose 'manager's choice' in my booking, as I'm normally not fussy about what car I drive and I like the experience of trying makes and models I haven't driven before. Unfortunately this time 'manager's choice' was an electric vehicle, a Chevy Bolt. I should have refused to take it. It was completely unsuitable for my needs. Unfortunately I went ahead. I was handed the key and given no advice about how to charge it or how to find charging stations. It turns out many charging stations require a particular app. Most charging stations are not found at gas stations. Also, charging the vehicle fully takes many hours, not the couple of minutes regular non-EV cars take to fill up. If an EV is your lifestyle choice you can plan your schedule, figure out the apps, figure out the charging network, and plan your route around that choice. As a novice to EV's and as a person taking a 24 hour rental, an EV was a completely unsuitable vehicle. I ended up with a massive additional charge from Hertz ($127 in addition to the $140 rental fee), as I had to return the car with a drained battery (I couldn't fit the 5 hour charge time into my schedule). The stress and delays caused by all of this was unreal. What should have been a 4-6 hour drive turned into a 19 hour nightmare. I entirely regret taking this rental.

Staff were professional, pick up and drop off easy. Price? Awful. I felt like I was " nickel and dimed" with fees that weren't on the web page, such as$10 per day for a gas car, $10 plus toll for every day I used a toll road and the ez pass. Bill was almost $800 for 6 days. Hertz is now my last choice.

The first car they gave me smelt like urine. The side of the car was damaged...and had started to rust. It had been like that for a while and they continued to rent it. It had over 50k miles on it! Staff were very disorganized and always calling for cars. Terrible system. Never again!

Rental was pretty seamless. Agent in NY was super helpful, wish I remembered her name. Only complaint would be not informing customer that they’re reserving an electric vehicle. I didn’t find that out until getting to Dollar. A change can be made for a fee though and if a regular vehicle is available.

Was allowed to rent a car past the time that the rental car company was open. Flight coming in was delayed so I hopped on different flight to this location, planning on renting a car to drive back home. Ended up being stranded in JFK for a night as I was never able to rent a car and all other places were booked. Had I known renting a car here wasn't possible I probably wouldn't have made flight arrangements this way

Reservation was confirmed. I took the Air Train to the car rental location. There was a hand written sign saying they were out of cars and no reservations were being honored. They should not accept reservations if they have no cars. It was like a scene from Seinfeld! They take the reservation but they don’t HOLD the reservation.

They did not give me my rental vehicle. They said because I didn’t make the reservation 24hrs in advance, that it wasn’t valid. Left me, my wife, and 1 year old child stranded in New York. Wouldn’t rent us a car seat so we could take a taxi or Lyft. Completely cold. Worst experience.

Great value for the price. Staff assures that you are getting the best value and were very kind. The car was in great condition. The only thing I would improve is more staff for times with more pick up and drop off. Other renters were very impatient and unkind to staff who were working very efficiently. There were no clear locations to park cars being dropped off which created more work for the staff. Otherwise, excellent.

I wish the tank was full when I picked it up. It's a bit more complex to return a tank at 5/8 than to return one that is full.
